Consider removing all of /press
While scanning our website for #18581 (closed), I wondered whether we should get rid of all of /press: https://tails.net/press/
We haven't added any new press mentions since June 2020. I feel like we're not really tracking them anymore because Tails is so well establish that we're not excited about being mentioned in the press anymore (or are not mentioned in the press as much as when Tails was newer). We also don't really have anyone responsible for making this happen in our team.
I remember talking about this with Benjamin Sonntag from La Quadrature one day and he joked about such list of media appearances being useful for newer projects to show off notoriousness but that it stops being so useful for well established projects. I feel that Tails has reached this point.
So I'm worried about the bad impression that such an outdated "Press" page is giving. Also, the last mentions were about the FBI hack and so not really in our favor.
The most important bits from these pages are already available in other forms:
- We have very strong "recommended by" on the Home and Donate pages.
- We have quotes and language about awards ready-to-use in https://gitlab.tails.boum.org/tails/board/-/wikis/fundraising/reusable_language
If one day we want to provide more useful content for the press and journalists on our website, we'll probably start something very different from scratch like building press kit. And we'll also be able to rescue this content from Git if we need it back.
