Make the icons used on the website more consistent with the rest of our visual style
So far on the website we've used 2 sets of icons as illustrations:
-
Colored icons taken from GNOME, like in the notes and warnings:
-
Black and white icons from The Noun Project, like on the Contribute page:
Both were quick and dirty solutions that I found before we had a proper illustrator on board, @anhdres!
In 2023, @jawlensky proposed to unify these icons and use the Bootstrap icons consistently on !1242 (closed) with f0b5b1bf and 532933d1:
Although, it's good to make these different icons more consistent between themselves, I see the following problems in this proposal:
- Monochrome icons in notes and warning make them lose visual salience and appear, which is key in this case.
- They don't look more like "Tails" than the other ones
So I'm not convinced that it's worth for us to do this change as I see it as another quick solution that's far from ideal.
It seems to me that we should rather ask @anhdres to draw custom icons for each of these. Building up on all the work that he's done so far and these 2 sets of icons, I guess that it wouldn't be too much work. While we're at it, we could reconsider whether we really need all these icons by the way.
