Get more informative user logs
It's often the case (see #19728 (closed) for a recent example) that we'd need user to run debug
before sending logs with WhisperBack.
This makes bug reports less useful. Can we improve on this? We could explore several ideas:
- tell users in the website to please turn on
debug
for better bug reporting - teach Tails-specific software to always enable debug logging
- The only case for which I'd see a reason for the user not wanting such logging enabled, is when sensitive information are displayed. I think this is very different from "don't flood my journal".
- if we think this is too much information shared with us, we could tweak the WhisperBack UI so that the user can decide how much information they want to share with us
- Have our Troubleshooting mode include
debug
. In theory, the purpose of that mode is about hardware hacks, but maybe that could be useful anyway?- Keep in mind that this could leak sensitive data: lot of software leaks sensitive data in
debug
.
