Migrate from aufs to overlayfs
_Originally created by @intrigeri on [#8415 (Redmine)](https://public-redmine-archive.tails.boum.org/code/issues/8415)_ Tails uses aufs, that is 1. is a pain to use with the grsecurity patchset; 2. is out-of-tree and requires aufs-dkms. overlayfs has none of these problems. It’s been merged into Linux 3.18 and the Debian kernel team would like to drop support for aufs at some point. team: segfault, intrigeri Feature Branch: feature/6560-secure-boot+force-all-tests, https://salsa.debian.org/tails-team/tails/-/merge_requests/44/ ### Attachments * [test-8415-overlayfs.sh](https://redmine.tails.boum.org/code/attachments/download/2329/test-8415-overlayfs.sh) ### Subtasks - [x] tails/tails#8456 - [x] tails/tails#8472 - [x] tails/tails#8473 - [x] tails/tails#8474 - [x] tails/tails#8483 - [x] tails/tails#8801 - [x] tails/tails#8908 - [x] tails/tails#9045 - [x] tails/tails#9373 - [x] tails/tails#9421 - [x] tails/tails#12105 - [x] tails/tails#12106 - [x] tails/tails#12112 - [x] tails/tails#15689 - [x] tails/tails#17262 - [x] tails/tails#17440 - [x] tails/tails#17451 ### Related issues - **Related to** tails/tails#15407 - **Related to** tails/tails#6876 - **Related to** tails/tails#17258 - **Related to** tails/tails#17361 - **Related to** tails/tails#15146 - **Blocks** tails/tails#6560 - **Blocks** tails/tails#17256
