Tor Connection and Unsafe Browser report no network connection if "Use this connection only for resources on its network" is ticked
Tested only in Tails 5.1.1.
Steps to reproduce:
Enable Unsafe Browser at the Greeter and continue into Tails
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
Choose the target Wireless network from the list
Choose Cancel when the password prompt appears
Choose the cog icon to the right of the target wireless network to open settings (this only appears after a connection attempt has been made)
Choose the IPv4 tab
Tick the option for "Use this network connection only for resources on its network"
Fill in the network password on the Password tab
Connect to the network
Wait till the menu bar Wi-Fi icon indicates a connection is established
Launch Unsafe Browser
Desired Results:
Unsafe Browser will launch and allow the user to connect to local network resources.
Actual Results:
Unsafe Browser will not launch because the user is not connected to a network.
Tor Connection will also display the same information, that the user is not connected to a network.
Troubleshooting:
Unticking the "Use this network connection only for resources on its network" then resetting the network connection (for example by removing and re-inserting the Wi-Fi dongle) will resolve the issue.
Ticking the box again and resetting the connection will introduce the problem again.
A network connection is definitely established if the menu bar icon and the tick next to the SSID in the Wi-Fi settings is anything to go by.
Comments:
This didn't used to be a problem. I couldn't say when the behaviour changed exactly.
I can't test with 5.2 at the moment so please don't ask.
