Document workaround for Lenovo ThinkPad T410 Wi-Fi problem

A user reported to Help Desk (WB: 8977214e339eab417682fe8ec55339bd) that their Lenovo ThinkPad T410 with an Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 Wi-Fi adapter can't connect to Wi-Fi when configured using the Network Manager GUI. However, the user is able to connect to Wi-Fi when they configure from the command line using the following commands:

nmcli networking ## check network ##
nmcli networking off ## turn off networking ##
nmcli networking ## recheck network ##
nmcli networking on ## turn on networking ##
nmcli device wifi ## show detected WIFI networks(SSIDs)##
nmcli device wifi connect <SSID> password "PASSPHRASE" ## connect to my network ##
nmcli networking ## check network (should be working) ##
ip a ## check that you have a valid IP ##

We should:

  • Investigate why configuring using the command line works but using the GUI doesn't
  • Investigate if the workaround might apply to other Wi-Fi adapters
  • Document the workaround
To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
