Upgrade isobuilders' kernel to 5.8+
Due to tails#17976 (closed), the fact lizard isobuilders are running the Stretch kernel causes trouble for RMs: extra manual work, extra delays in the release process. So far the problem affected me & not anonym, but now we're both affected, so the negative impact got worse.
So far, we were kinda counting on the fact the isobuilders would be upgraded to Buster soonish, since:
- I've already tested on my local Jenkins and it seems pretty straightforward.
- After we upgraded the isotesters to Buster, IIRC @zen committed to do that, although I have no trace of a particular timeline.
But since then, #17743 (closed) was repurposed to track the upgrade to Bullseye, which I suppose will not happen before Bullseye becomes stable in 4-6 months.
So, it would be really nice for RMs to upgrade the isobuilders' kernel to 5.8+. I see 2 options:
- install the kernel from
buster-backports
: if it works, this would be by far the easiest solution - upgrade lizard isobuilders to Buster
Ideally, this would happen by the end of the week, to avoid anonym the need to put several hours into a local workaround on his laptop in order to RM Tails 4.16. Sorry for the super short notice! I only learnt recently that anonym was now affected as well, and this info was stuck in my backlog.
If you don't have the bandwidth to handle this silver bullet on such short notice, let me know: I can make time for this on Wed + Thu.
